Hand Embroidered Two-Thread with Suede Applique

This image shows a portion of a head cloth for a four poster bed. The full design is based on a painted tree motif from the walls of the Villa Kerylos which is located on the rocky tip of the Baie des Fourmis in Beaulieu-sur-Mer, France. The Villa is a recreation of noble houses on the Island of Delos from the 2nd century BC. Our version uses two techniques: the suede is applied using a simple "E" stitch and the outlining and branches are in a two thread stitch.
