Chainstitch and Two Thread with Pom-Poms

Created as a border on wool flannel curtains for an Aspen retreat, this design is a combination of three basic stitches selected to enhance a relaxed home. The chainstitch, one of the oldest in the lineage of stitches, is a popular and egalitarian stitch. It puts two lines of thread on the surface of the fabric for every single line on the back of the fabric, giving greater coverage and less bulk to the embroidery. The two thread is a cord technique that gives the embroidered piece great texture by creating a continuous hollow tube of threads which ride totally on the surface of the fabric. Half pom-poms, hand embroidered thread tufts forming half domes, complete this trio of interesting surface embellishments.
